All of society, including companies and universities, will be increasingly affected by the green transition and the related environmentally aware behaviour, which is why Ülemiste City organised another international business and education network meeting Challenges of Environmental Awareness in Future City. Examples of environmentally aware companies were presented in the project and future talents and campus companies were brought together.

In 2022, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) started to implement the project E.I.N.S: E3UDRES2 Entrepreneurship and Innovation Network for Smart and Sustainable European Regions (No. 10043). The project is funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT, https://eit-hei.eu/) which is the largest and most influential innovation network in Europe. This is a new initiative that foresees a major role for higher education institutions to strengthen innovation in the regions.

This year, 17 foreign full-time students from countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan will start their studies at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA). In the autumn semester of 2022, 9 new foreign exchange students from France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Albania, and Moldova were also admitted as a part of the Erasmus+ program. Students will study various courses within the ViA International Study Module.

During the first international competition for the post of rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA), three applications were received. The Council of University forwarded two candidates to elections at the meeting of the Constitutional Assembly. On June 22nd, 2022, the rector’s elections took place. No candidate won a sufficient majority of votes hence the Council is holding a second international competition. The candidates are invited to apply until August 31st, 2022.

From April 25 to April 29, the third-year students of the study program “Tourism Organization and Management” of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, together with the second-year tourism students of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences, completed an internship in a neighboring country - Estonia. The aim of the internship was to acquire practical skills in organizing and managing tours, hotel reservations and more.

As stated by the Chairman of the ViA Council Dr.rer.pol. Arnis Sauka: “I will be glad if the next Rector of the University will be an energetic, motivated person able to evaluate what has already been done at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, as well as manage the university to reach new heights by attracting students and improving study quality with policy makers, entrepreneurs and society at large, in Valmiera, Latvia and internationally. This is an open competition. I invite anyone who meets these qualities to apply. ”
