Candidates for the post of Rector at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences are invited to apply

During the first international competition for the post of rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA), three applications were received. The Council of University forwarded two candidates to elections at the meeting of the Constitutional Assembly. On June 22nd, 2022, the rector’s elections took place. No candidate won a sufficient majority of votes hence the Council is holding a second international competition. The candidates are invited to apply until August 31st, 2022.

The Chairman of the ViA Council, Dr.rer.pol. Arnis Sauka has stated he will be happy for an energetic, motivated person elected as the next rector of the university. “The candidate should be able to evaluate the existing achievements of ViA as well as lead the university to reach new heights in attracting students and improving the quality of studies. The new rector should be able to open new horizons in science, innovation, to attract funding, work in cooperation with policy makers, entrepreneurs, and society in general in Valmiera, Latvia and internationally. This is an open competition – I invite anyone who meets these qualities to apply”.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is a state university founded in 1996. It offers 17 study programs in the faculties of Social Sciences and Engineering. The University works in 6 study areas – Business Management, Information Technologies, Communication, Media and Management, Mechatronics, Tourism and Recreation as well as Construction.

Requirements for the candidate:

PhD, experience and achievements in science and higher education or innovation, impeccable reputation and work experience in a leading position and international environment.

Remuneration: 4500.00 EUR per month before taxes.

The application submitted by August 31st, 2022, should contain:

  • A letter of motivation addressed to the ViA Council describing compliance with the criteria set for the candidate, incl. proof of an impeccable reputation, as well as a vision of ViA’s strategic development in the form of theses.
  • Applicants must submit copies of documents certifying education, academic and scientific qualifications, curriculum vitae (CV), including a list of scientific publications and monographs, or other evidence of activity in the field of science, higher education, or innovation.
  • The applicant must submit a certificate of consent to the processing of personal data in order to ensure the process of nomination and election of rector.
