Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is ready to receive the Ukrainian refugees – we offer accommodation, study, and research opportunities
In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) has prepared a package of assistance and support measures for the war refugees: accommodation in the university hotels, as well as study and research places.
Interim Rector of ViA, Associate Professor Agnese Dāvidsone: “All the people of Ukraine need our help now. We offer immediate support for the accommodation of 50 refugees to date and will be able to offer accommodation for 130 people in May. We have also created 20 university-funded budget places for Ukrainian students at all study levels – bachelor, master and doctoral. We invite colleagues from our partner universities in Ukraine to move to Latvia and to continue research here using our laboratories and other infrastructure.”
In addition to the 20 budget places, ViA offers free study courses in accordance with individual interests to several dozen Ukrainian residents.
Together with the partners of the European University Alliance E³UDRES², ViA is developing an even wider support program to offer job opportunities in research and other projects in the future.
ViA also joins the Latvian Students’ Union in calling for the abolition of immigration law restrictions to allow full-time third-country students to work more than 20 hours a week and potentially allow them to earn more.
