Representatives of foreign universities will take part in the International Week at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences

Within the International Week from February 4th to 8th, 2022 Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences will host guests from eleven countries, who will participate in several parallel events throughout the week, including guest lectures and conferences. In total, more than 40 foreign representatives (rectors, researchers, and lecturers) from universities in Europe and abroad will visit Latvia and Valmiera.

ViA will be attended by lecturers and researchers who will conduct various guest lectures for students and anyone interested from Valmiera and Vidzeme region throughout the week. Lectures will be given by representatives from Belgium, Israel, Lithuania, Albania, and Armenia.

On Tuesday, April 5th, ViA representatives will welcome partners from the European University or the Association of Six Universities E³UDRES² from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Romania and Portugal, and two future partners from Germany and the Netherlands. Foreign guests will spend the day in Riga at the National Library of Latvia to learn more about the joint projects and research intentions, getting to know the context of Latvia and the Vidzeme region.

On Wednesday, April 6th the greatest emphasis will be placed on research. University researchers will form new collaborations and address current challenges in Vidzeme and other regions of these countries such as the circular economy, well-being, and the interaction between man and artificial intelligence. Specialists in the development planning of Vidzeme region municipalities are also invited to meet with researchers in order to form a common understanding of how international research within the European University E3UDRES2 can help in the development of various industries.

On the afternoon of April 6th, from 16.00 to 18.00, ViA (Valmiera, Cēsu Street 4) will host the study opportunity institution “Study fair”. It will be possible to meet and get to know all 12 universities together, including Latvian representatives to find out more about what they represent, study offers, etc. Anyone interested is invited to participate in the event.

Thursday, April 7th, will be dedicated to the future perspective. In the first half of the day the rectors of the European University E³UDRES² partners and future partners will meet to discuss strategic development directions. In the afternoon at the workshop in Straupe and Ungurmuiža, the participants of the international week will jointly create scenarios for the future of higher education, discuss the role of universities in the future society, future opportunities, limitations, and practical aspects of the European University.

On Friday, April 8th, the highest point of the international week will be the ViA International Scientific Conference “SOCIETY. TECHNOLOGIES. SOLUTIONS”. The aim of the conference is to discuss the current research from ViA and other countries, as well as to provide inspiration for new achievements and innovations in the Vidzeme region, Latvia, and the world.

The Vice-Rector and E3UDRES2 project manager Iveta Putniņa emphasizes: “We can only produce a very small percentage of all knowledge in Latvia. Therefore, it is important that ViA becomes a place of exchange of knowledge created elsewhere, and that we can discuss its application in the Vidzeme region. International Week is an opportunity to share methods, approaches, and good examples of how to address societal challenges in regions and how structured thinking helps to reduce future risks.”
