In order for the doctoral studies to be not only theoretical but also practical, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) offers students to study in the joint programme “Economics and Business” or “Sociotechnical Systems Modelling” with the opportunity to develop their skills in research and projects.

“The joint study programme “Economics and Business” is implemented at ViA Institute of Social, Economic and Humanities Research (HESPI), where researchers and doctoral students carry out research to address important international, national and regional issues, such as the development of micro cities, the future of declining places, the practical application of big data in the development of industries and places, incl. in the tourism and recreation sector, economic opportunities in the post-crisis conditions, management models for protected nature territories. Opportunities for students to do in-service training abroad are supported with recommendations when applying for competitions and grants. Studying in these programs means researching!” commented Agita Līviņa, Director of the Institute of Social, Economic and Humanities Research of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences.

In the doctoral study programme “Sociotechnical Systems Modelling” in the academic year 2021/2022, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences offers 2 (two) state-budget financed study places. While studying in this field, doctoral students have the opportunity to promote the development of the information technology sub-sector, to introduce the latest scientific knowledge in system modelling in the national economy, to participate in research, various projects and to promote competition among academic staff. At the end of the studies, the doctoral student obtains a doctoral degree in engineering in the sub-branch of information technology systems analysis, modelling and design (Dr.sc.ing.).

As before, during the studies, it is possible to work in well-equipped laboratories and cooperate with ViA researchers and teaching staff who will provide the necessary support and knowledge.
