Articles by the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences’ researchers included in the book from the Routledge publishing house

Pandemic is a serious challenge to the global education system. Its impact on changes in the study process, adaptation and related problems have been studied by the teaching staff and researchers at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (hereinafter – ViA). Several scientific articles have been published in the book by one of the world’s most prestigious publishing houses, Routledge.

The book titled “Remote Learning in Times of Pandemic. Issues, Implications and Best Practice” discusses the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the teaching and learning process, learning models, good practice and the challenges of its implementation. The authors of two chapters in this issue are researchers of ViA: PhD Agnese Dāvidsone, Mg.sc.soc. Liene Ločmele, Dr.psych. Vineta Silkāne, and Dr.paed. Anžela Jurāne-Brēmane.

Liene Ločmele and Barbara Ruth Burke summarizes the challenges in the field of higher education, focusing on the pandemic as a new and complex era in the study process and everyday life. Agnese Dāvidsone, Vineta Silkāne, Anžela Jurāne-Brēmane and their colleagues from Vilnius University have focused on transfer of social simulations to the online environment, the virtual presence of teachers and communication in the new conditions.

Agnese Dāvidsone notes that both articles are based on the authors’ personal experience. “Readers will appreciate,” she says, “that while trying to navigate the unique change caused by the pandemic and finding the most appropriate solutions, we also enthusiastically reflected on what was going on and gained valuable insights for development of our pedagogical practices”.
