
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences receives prestigious Platinum Mouse award
On December 5, during the annual conference of the Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) the winners of the annual information and communication technology (ICT) industry award "Platinum Mouse" were announced. This year Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences has received the highest recognition in the category "Best Cybersecurity Initiative".
In recognition of its contribution to the education and training of cybersecurity professionals, the Platinum Mouse award in the category "Best Cybersecurity Initiative" was given to Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) which participated in the competition with the project "Development and Approbation of New Master's Study Programmes at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences" (Nr.8.2.1.0/18/A/011). At the award ceremony, the university was represented by ViA Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Work, Docent, Researcher and SSII Director Ginta Majore, as well as Deputy Head of Information Technologies Studies for the "Cybersecurity Engineering" study programme Ivars Majors.
Two more projects were nominated for the Platinum Mouse 2019 award in the category "Best Cybersecurity Initiative": the service failure attack defence system “Tornado” by the company “Tet” and “Student Digital IQ” initiative by the electrical equipment manufacturer “Samsung Electronics Baltics”, which received a certificate of acknowledgement by the Ministry of Defence.
This year it was possible to apply in categories such as artificial intelligence solution for society and business, enterprise digital transformation, state digital transformation, best e-teacher, best cybersecurity initiative, and most successful solution of e-signature integration.
The annual Platinum Mouse award was established in 2007 with the aim of identifying the most successful digital solutions developed in Latvia, recognizing outstanding project authors and developers, and raising awareness of meaningful use of technology in society, business, governance and education. The Platinum Mouse award is the industry's most prestigious award, highlighting the most successful digital solutions created in Latvia and calling for appreciation for the growing role of technology in our daily lives.
As a result of the project "Development and Approbation of New Master's Study Programmes at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences" five international Master's degree programmes will be developed: "Media and Information Literacy", "Virtual Reality and Smart Technologies", "Cybersecurity Engineering", "Strategic Communication and Governance", and a tourism study programme in cooperation with Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in Finland.
